군산대학교 해양과학대학 부속양어장(장장 이정열 교수)과 수산과학연구소(소장 류동기 교수)는 전북수산기술연구소 민물고기시험장(장장 노희동)과 함께 수산종묘방류행사를 갖는다.
오는 15일 익산시 웅포면 웅포리 곰개나루터에서 열리는 수산종묘방류행사는 군산대 해양과학대학에서 갖는 10번째 행사로 잉어 치어(체장 5~6cm) 5만 마리와 붕어치어(체장 4~5cm) 5만마리를 방류한다.
수산종묘 방류행사는 1997년 익산 원수리 저수지에 잉어 및 향어치어 5만 마리를 방류한 이래 해마다 해오고 있는 행사로, 군산대학교 부속양어장은 수산자원 조성과 보호의 측면에서 매년 잉어, 향어, 메기, 넙치, 전복 등 담수어류 치어와 해산 어패류 치어를 전주 삼천천, 군산시 대위저수지, 미룡저수지 및 고군산군도 등지에 방류해왔다.
방류에 이용되는 수산종묘는 군산대학교 해양과학대학 해양생명과학부 학생들이 종묘생산 실습으로 생산 사육한 것과 전라북도 수산기술연구소 민물고기시험장에서 생산된 어류종묘이다.
특히 이번 방류행사에는 2008년 치어를 방류했던 금강유역 같은 장소에 추가 방류하는 것으로 방류하는 치어의 수가 지난번의 2배에 달하며, 어종 역시 다양화했다.
이에 따라 이번 방류는 금강 유역의 어종 다양성 증가와 방류효과를 높여줌으로써 금강 수계에 인접한 여러 내수면 어업계의 소득 증대에 기여할 것으로 기대가 되어 내수면 어업자원 보호의 의미를 더욱 부각시키고 있다.
지금까지 14년 동안 내수면과 바다에 수산종묘 방류행사를 하며 50만여 마리를 방류한 군산대학교 해양과학대학 부속양어장의 실적은 대학으로서는 처음 있는 일이다.
