강석희 미국 어바인시장


 
2008년 비(非)백인계로서는 처음으로 미국 캘리포니아주 어바인시의 직선시장이 된 강석희시장(59) 초청강연이 오는  30일 군산대 황룡문화관에서 열린다.

“변화의 시대, 글로벌 리더의 비전”이라는 주제로 1시간 동안 진행될 강연에서 강석희 시장은 이민 1세대로서 처음으로 한인 시장이 된 자신의 정치경험을 토대로 신뢰와 진심의 힘, 글로벌 리더가 갖추어야 할 비전 및 덕목 등에 대해서 이야기한다.

강석희 시장은 1977년 고려대를 졸업한 후 미국 이민길에 올라 2004년 어바인 시의원에 당선되면서 정치에 입문했다.

2008년 어바인 시장에 당선된 후 2010년 11월 어바인 시장재선에 성공하였다. 2010년에는 오렌지 카운티 OC METRO 잡지사의 “가장 영향력있는 인물 25인”에 선정되었다.

또한 뉴욕 카네기 재단이 뽑은 “올해의 미국이 자랑하는 이민자”에 선정되었고, 국제 지도자 재단의 “올해의 정치인 상”을 수상하였다.
