비응항~제주 위그선 타고 갈까?

(주)오션익스프레스, 군산-제주 항로 면허 신청

군산지방해양항만청(청장 이병주)은 (주)오션익스프레스에서 세계 최초로 수면 위를 떠서 날아가는 여객선인 위그선(WIG Ship)을 군산(비응항)-제주(애월항) 항로에 투입하기 위하여 해상여객운송사업(내항정기) 면허를 신청했다 고 13일 밝혔다.

(주)오션익스프레스는 해운법 시행규칙 제2조에 의거 위그선(WIG Ship) 건조 및 접안ㆍ수송시설의 1년 이내 확보를 조건으로 하는 “해상여객 운송사업(내항정기) 조건부 면허”를 신청했다.

올해 상반기중 면허관련 조건을 이행하고 전체 항로거리가 약 360㎞인 군산(비응항)~제주(애월항) 항로를 평시 4항차(편도), 성수기 6항차(편도) 운항하여 여객을 2시간 이내에 수송할 계획이다.

군산(비응항)~제주(애월항) 항로에는 여객정원 50명인 50톤급 2척이 투입될 예정으로 현재 선박제조회사인 윙쉽중공업(주)에서 건조중에 있으며 올해 상반기중 인수될 예정이다.

군산항만청 관계자는 세계 최초의 위그선(WIG Ship) 여객항로인 만큼 접안시설, 편의시설 및 해상교통 안전성 여부 등에 대한 다각적이고 충분한 관계기관 협의 및 검토 후 ‘해상여객운송사업(내항정기) 조건부 면허; 여부를 결정할 것 이라고 밝혔다.

한편 위그선(WIG Ship)은 바다위 1~5m에서 시속 180~250㎞로 순항하는 선박으로서 파도의 영향을 받지 않을 뿐만아니라, 연류소모량이 고속선 및 항공기의 1/3 에 불과한 친환경 선박이다.
