이희연 군산대학교 총장이 강릉대 등 13개 대학 총장이 참석한 가운데 지난 12일과 13일 양일간 부경대학교 대연캠퍼스에서 열린 지역중심 국립대학교 총장협의회에서 차기 회장으로 선임됐다.
이 총장의 임기는 오는 3월부터 2010년 2월까지 1년이며, 한국대학교육협의회 부회장을 겸하게 된다.
이희연 총장은 “임기동안 지역중심대학의 발전과 지방대학의 예산확충 및 대학입시제도개선에 대해 관심을 가지고 적극 노력할 예정”이라고 밝혔다.
지역중심 국립대학교 총장협의회는 군산대, 강릉대, 공주대, 금오공대, 목포대, 목포해양대, 부경대, 순천대, 안동대, 창원대, 한국교원대, 한국체대, 한국해양대 등 전국 13개 국립대학 총장들로 구성된 조직으로, 그동안 국립대학의 발전방안 및 교육현안사업을 위해 다양한 의견을 개진해왔다.
이와 함께 군산대는 공과대학 토목환경공학부 김강주 교수를 제5회 황룡학술상 수상자로 선정했다.
김 교수는 지하수 및 토양환경 분야에서 뛰어난 연구실적을 보이고 있으며, “Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety”, “Environmental Geology”, “Marine Pollution Bulletin”, “Geochemical Journal”, “Science of the Total Environment” 등 국제전문학술지(SCI급)에 27편의 논문을 게재하는 연구실적을 보인바 있다.
또한 김 교수는 서울대 지질과학과를 졸업한 후 위스콘신대학교 지질 및 지구물리학과(지하수학전공)에서 박사학위를 받았으며, 한국환경정책평가연구원, 한국지하수토양환경학회 기획실행위원 등을 역임했으며, 현재 BK21지반환경통합관리 핵심인력양성사업팀 팀장으로 활동하고 있다.
황룡학술상에 대한 시상은 오는 19일 군산대학교 전체교수회의에서 있을 예정이며 수상자에게는 500만원의 상금과 상패가 수여된다.
한편 황룡학술상은 군산대학교에 재직하는 전임교원 중 독창적이고 탁월한 연구업적 및 교육성과를 보인 교수를 선정하여 연구 활성화를 유도하고 대학발전을 꾀하기 위해 제정된 상으로 격년제로 시행되고 있다. 한정근 기자 (kmrnews@hanmail.net)
